I Spy My Building...........
Checking out LuLu Island

LuLu Island is just across the bay from where I live. It just opened up last summer for beach goers. So for all those that know where I live you go to Marina Mall and take a right and go to the flag pole area and there is a little ferry boat that takes you to the island. There isn't much parking so you have to carry your gear to the ferry. You get on a bus and go to what ever spot on the island you want. The bus cost is 15 AED and it will take you to where ever you want and will pick you up where ever you want. There is a mobile number written on paper taped to the window if you want to be picked up. So you should write it down just in case. It is a big island and had lots of date tress planted. The lews are spead out a distance from each other. Hummmmm thinking on that one. The beaches are lovely and the sand is good sand. So packing all the beach gear and cooler and other "stuff" it was a little work to do. We had Jeff to do majority of the toting of heavy things so the ladies just were trying to decide if we would do this again.

My friends Stephanie, her mom Sharon and brother and son Jeff. They are from Utah.
I was surprised at the lifejackets that you have to wear on the boat. Nice going!!!!!! Big points for me.

My friend Lynda from New Zealand.
So would we go again? The vote was yes. We would bring more people, stay longer, more food, bring games, have it just a titch warmer and stay on the side of the island that you can see all the buildings. The other side there isnt anything to look at.
Damaged Goods
Well I'm just glad it wasn't me that did this. Sam was going to work and I'm sure he was on the phone and thinking about 10 different things. He tried to pull a local and make a new lane for him self when he reliezed he was in the wrong lane. He got a little to close to the other car that was in the right lane. The local young man in the other car was on his way to school and Sam asked him what he was studying and then he offered him a job. Sam can defuse any uncomfortable position. They discussed school and his teachers and work and by that time the police had come and taken down the information and everyone was on their way. I don't think he had a great day that day, that was just the beginning ..........
My solution to the problem is: He has a driver at work that can pick him up and take him home. Then I can have the car once in a while. I need votes on who thinks this is a good idea.

Ski, Dine, Wonder who is living there and make new friends on the road....
This is the Ski Dubai from the outside of the Mall of the Emerites. The locals love this place. The place offers you an opportunity to ski with them really for a reasonable price. When Robbie was here it was July 19th and 115 degrees out side and inside he was skiing. They supply you with a coat, pants, skis, poles and boots. You could pay a little more for an local to teach you how to ski. All you need to bring is your own hat and gloves. Robbie said 2 hours is more than enough time to experience this. For those real skiers I'm sure it would only last a couple of runs. The price runs around 60-70$ USD
.This boat looking building is the Burg Al Arab. A 7 star hotel. A local favorite of many I'm sure. I believe if it looks like gold, its is. This is were Matt Lauer was on top broadcasting on the helicopter pad, "where in the world is Matt Lauer "last year on the Today Show. When your at Wild Wadi the water Park next to it you can see the pad and all sorts of flying machines coming and going.

This is just a few more of all the buildings in construction in the desert.
You have to wonder who is going to live in all those buildings? This is a new friend I found on the drive to Dubai. He saw me taking pictures from the car and kept waving at me. He didn't want me to forget him. He wanted to be blogged too.
Just a little construction going on here.....
This picture shows the new Dubai Metro Track that will be opening somtime in the next year or two. Sam has been working on this with his company. It will be of great help to relieve some of the traffic congestion that Dubai suffers so greatly with.
This is one of the stations on the track. The track goes out to the airport and that is one of the worst areas to be in during high traffic times, which is mostly all the time.
Two years ago all this was in the middle of construction when we first came here. Some of the thousands of cranes are gone but the building continues.
Just a little group of construction cranes here.
The Tall One
We were in Dubai on Friday for just a couple of hours. So I snapped away at all the new buildings that have continued to get taller and taller. This building(Burg Dubai) is supposta be the tallest building in the world. Right now its at 160 floors and still growing. The rumor mill has it that the top area is going for about 11m USD for about 4,000 square feet of space. One lady that I talked to on Friday said they were having oxygen problems with the construction workers. Interesting. I decieded that I didn't ever want to be on the top of anything this tall anywhere in the world. I wouldn't want to be one of those two crane operators either.
